- Wow . . by the looks of things I've really been slacking on updating the news section. It seems to have been a natural progression for most bands to switch over to the MySpace community. So to stay up to date, please visit theTransient MySpace page. This page will continue to be updated, just not as frequently (obviously).
- Our 2004 release 'The Meaning of One' has been reviewed by Kevin Keating over at Origivation Magazine. Here's what he had to say:
3/5 Stars. Thoughtful college-pop with triumphant melodies and intricately woven instrumental parts set The Meaning of One apart from most light, jammish live acts around. Sounding like a slightly harder OAR, Transient has definitely mastered that accessible but intelligent sound so popular among the popped collars and braided hemp necklace set. The recording is effective, though the choice of guitar distortion is odd and distracting pretty much throughout.

You're going to New York on May 6th . . that's right you're all coming out to our NYC debut at The Underscore in the Upper East side of Manhatten. Check out the Shows section for more details.

If you want to be more informed of Transient happenings sign up for our mailing list on the main index page of the site, or email me james@transientmusic.com with your email address. We have some good show news. We have been chosen to participate in the 2004 Penn's Landing Battle of the Bands. We are among twelve bands chosen from the Philadelphia area to compete. We will be playing on Sunday December 12 at around 5:30. This is an ALL AGES show and it is free. I will know more details later this week and send them out to the mailing list. We'd love to have your support on this one . . . we promise that it will be much better than the Emergenza fiasco . . plus it's free . . Check out the shows page for more details.

- Well the date has finally been confirmed . . . our CD will be released on October 30th and to celebrate we will be playing at Abilene on South Street. We will be announcing more details as the date approaches . . but keep your calendars open . . this will be a show that you do not want to miss.

- I know we’ve been talking about it for a while now but it’s finally happening . . we’re going into the studio next weekend. As of now we’re planning on recording ten songs for a CD that will be released hopefully sometime in October. We’ll be planning a CD release party as the release date nears.

- I know it's been a while since the last news update but there really hasn't been much to report until now. We placed first in our semi-final round of the Emergenza Festival this past Friday at North By Northwest. What this means is that we are playing the T.L.A. on South Street on June 19th. This is a very important round because if we win we get to go to Germany to play in the European Emergenza Festival. Thank you all for your support - without it we would never have gotten this far. But we do need to call upon you again for the 19th because part of the vote is once again a hand count . . but one thing that we are happy about this time is that if we are in the top six of the hand counts we will be judged by a panel of judges which ultimately determines who moves onto Germany. We will hopefully see you all on June 19th.

- Here it is - out first review. It is of our audition at the Rusty Nail made by the bar's owner, Chris.
-
A solid three piece straight rock band. I liked the vocals, it was different somehow and in this saturated business, you need to be a little different. Creative lyrics and blending of melodies gives this band a cool touch. I was like a toned down Nirvana......unplugged, yet plugged ( if that makes sense ). Drummer looked like hard rock (I told him that) , but did a very good job of keeping the pace and beat to the riff changes and vocalizations. Bass player was solid as well. This is a tight band with room to grow, but are on the right track. I really enjoyed their style of music. (Chris - Rusty Nail 2004)

- First of all we would like to thank everyone who came out and supported us at the 5 Spot last friday. Because of your support we placed second, only one vote away from the first place place. This means that we get to play at North By Northwest in the Germantown section of Philly on May 20th. If we get first there we will be playing the T.L.A. in June. Please contact us for tix -- we play early (7:00 PM).
-
Also a big thanks goes to our friends Steve and Dawn for asking us to play their 'Pimps and Hos' party this past weekend. Check out the Sights page for some pictures from the shindig.
-
I also got around to posting some new songs on the Sounds page. Be sure to check them out and let us know what you think.
03/17/04
- Transient is pleased to introduce the online 'Jam of the Month Club'. One of our favorite things to do as a band is to just play without knowing where we're gonna start or where we'll end up. So about once a month we will be posting an improvisational recording from one of our practices. This month is my (James) pick. Next month I'll make Jimmy or Mike pick one. They're gonna have to be rotated in order to save space but we will keep at least a month previous posted as an archive. Check it out on the sounds page.

April is shaping up to be a very busy month for us. We need all your support for the Emergenza festival on April 9th at the Five Spot in Philly. You should buy tickets from us now for $10.00 - 'cause they're $15.00 at the door. We would really love to advance to the second round and can't do it without your support. The compilation CD release party at the Concord Cafe on April 2nd will be a good time and remember that the first 100 or so people through the door will get a "free" comp CD with a paid cover charge. As always - check out our shows page for all the info on our shows.
02/15/04
- We were in the studio last week and recorded Go. We are very pleased with the way things went and will be returning shortly to continue work on our forecoming EP due for release in the summer. I will be putting up a sample as soon as the final mix is made.
-
You will be able to hear the rough mix of Go on the Concord Cafe compilation CD which is being released on April 2. Go was chosen to be included in the compilation along with 9 other songs from local bands that played the Concord Cafe in 2003. We will be playing the release party on April 2 along with four other bands. A free compilation is given to everyone who comes to the show and pays the cover charge. So if you can't wait until the summer to have Go then get on out to the Concord Cafe show.

And finally I have switched transientmusic.com's host from AOL to lunarpages.com . . I am trying to free all ties to AOL. If you notice any problems with the site, email the webmaster.

There will be eight bands and four will move onto the second round. The winner of the second round will then get to play at the T.L.A. We need everyone's support on this one. You need a ticket to get into the show. We are selling them . . the cost is $10 for eight bands. I believe that they will be $15 the day of the show . .so try and get them from us. You can email me or harass any of us at a show for a ticket.
-
We will also be playing the Rusty Nail on February 18th. We would love to see you there. You can check out the Shows page for more details.
- We are also planning on going into the studio sometime in the very near future. We just need to figure out some of the financial aspects of the whole endeavor before we start. We will definitely keep you all posted on that one. The goal is to get a CD out in the Summer of 2004 . .we're gonna do it right this time.
01/10/04
- I finally got around to putting some Pics up from the Concord Cafe show. They didn't turn out to well because of the lighting - so I decided to have a little fun with Photoshop - I hope you don't mind. Thanks to Jess for taking the pictures. We also have a little show of sorts to announce. The good news is that it's an ALL AGES show, the bad news is we only get to play for 15 minutes. We will be playing in a Battle of the Bands at West Chester University that benefits the Special Olympics. Check out the Shows page for more details.
